The Harford County Piano Teachers Association is a non-profit organization of local piano teachers. The association was founded in 1979 after a proposal by the late Margarite McComas. The purpose of the association is the promotion of excellence in piano instruction and in music standards in Harford County, MD. HCPTA is funded by membership fees and by a grant from the Harford County Cultural Arts Board.

*Opportunities and Benefits for Students of Members

         Three student piano recitals throughout the year which are typically held on Sunday afternoons at 3:00pm at Bel Forest Baptist Church, 603 Vale Road, Bel Air, MD.

         Master classes: Students playing in an intermediate level or above are impartially selected to play for a Master Teacher. Students and teachers observe and derive insights in the exciting exchange.

         The piano festival: This is a 20 year tradition with HCPTA typically held in April at Harford Community College. Students of all levels play two memorized pieces in an age related group  before an adjudicator. Competitive or non-competitive groups may be selected.

          Scholarships for students who plan to pursue a music degree in college.

 

*Membership Registration and Dues

        The annual membership is $30.00 with a $5.00 initation fee for new members.

        Any teacher of piano or any person interested in promoting the objectives of this association is elgible for membership.
